  MESSAGE AND DEDICATION:

Conquering one’s self amongst the hundred challengers who’ve taken the call to be part of the PNPA MASIDTALAK CLASS of 2023. Bearing the weight of responsibility upon taking the oath to become the nation’s finest, it is in the precipice of victory that we are bound to be steadfast servants of our motherland, servicing with honor and intellect.

Embarked with inspiration from a family of law enforcers, heed with dedication and passion. Venturing into this cadetship program had imparted two important values: integrity and discipline which I, myself uphold. The legacy of being an upperclassman serves the wisdom to mentor the hearts and minds of our underclassmen.

Molding to be the leaders of the country, we embody the spirit of service, justice, integrity, and honor with utmost bravery. This had been inculcated through our minds in the four years of our stay in the Academy. Dignified with strength, as we submit ourselves to the training, committed to our cadet life to be a person of competence. In the course of our stay in the portals of the Philippine National Police Academy, it is evident that it is the character that we have built sufficing to the mission to be a community-responsive public safety officer.

“Grim struggle of winning supremacy over oneself,” as I dedicate this success to my family, friends, underclassmen, and the Almighty God.

“Through hardships, we see the silver lining of our victory”

I am Jeneva Rose D. Bucalen, 23 years of age. Born to Martina and Eugenio Bucalen in Tabuk, Kalinga but was raised in Baguio City. I have lived in several different places throughout my life. Through those years, I have been on a journey of self-discovery, trying to understand who I am and what my purpose would be. Being exposed to a family of public servants, I was deemed with a vision of becoming a police officer by finishing a degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminology.  This journey has been filled with challenges, triumphs, and moments of deep introspection. As I got older, I began to explore different interests and hobbies, trying to find something that would bring me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I was able to be part of the PNPA MASIDTALAK Class of 2023 in 2019 beginning the path of cadetship.

A cadet experiences continuous adjustment and challenges throughout the four-year-long training education. And now, three years later on my journey and gaining the title of a police cadet, I have experienced a lot of life-changing moments that have shaped my perspective and helped me foster as an individual. Being a cadet is a unique experience, and it allowed me to gain valuable insight into the lives of those who protect our communities and whose lives I must protect once I join the line of public servants.

On the precipice of conviction, I was initially attracted to this role because I wanted to contribute to my community and help those in need. Commenced with extensive training, both physically and mentally, and sooner internalized that the role of a cadet is challenging yet rewarding. I had to learn to work with a team, manage my time efficiently, value my subordinates, and develop effective communication skills.

“Go through such pain and suffering without complaining.” I have had the opportunity to work alongside seasoned professionals, and their mentorship has been invaluable. I have learned that the job requires an individual to be flexible, submissive, adaptable, and carry the challenges of fate. I have witnessed the lives of the people we serve and those who serve them, and it has helped me understand the mere essence of empathy and compassion.

I had to confront my fears and take on responsibilities that are beyond the bubble of my comfort zone. I have learned to stay calm under pressure and focus on the task. I have developed a sense of confidence in my abilities, and as a police cadet, I am excited to continue to learn and grow in this role as I prepare myself for the life outside the borders of the Academy.

Being a police cadet has been an unforgettable experience. It has taught me valuable life lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. It has instilled in me a sense of purpose and has allowed me to make a positive impact on my community. It opened a glimpse of the services I, we, have to deliver as young lieutenants. It allowed us to live the life we will have. I am proud to be a police cadet and excited to see where this journey and the journey after this program will take me.

The weight of the Anahaw that will fall on our shoulders is just a reflection that dedication and perseverance will not fail the patient. Once again, this is P/CDT JENEVA ROSE D. BUCALEN, a Police Cadet at the present, a Police Lieutenant in the making.
