ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) is a program offered by many colleges and universities across the country that trains students in the skills and knowledge necessary to become officers in the military. As a future police officer, the mandatory conduct of ROTC provides important leadership learnings that can be applied in the field. ROTC is a program that prepares college students for military leadership roles. However, the principles and values learned in ROTC apply to many leadership roles, including law enforcement. It has taught me the importance of responsibility. As a cadet, I have learned that my actions have consequences and that I am responsible for my decisions. This has taught me to be accountable for my actions and to take ownership of my mistakes. Responsibility has also taught me to be reliable, which is essential for being a successful police officer. It made me aware of the importance of self-discipline, respect, and responsibility. These lessons will enable me to be an effective leader, build positive relationships, and work effectively in a team.
