Modern-day Policing

-PGEN. HARRIS R FAMA

The guest of honor and speaker, PBGEN HARRIS R FAMA spearheaded his speech with a reminder that leadership is vital to the success of a cadet and their underclassmen together with the discussion of modern-day world technology. In his speech, he said that it is a nostalgic visit for him for he was once in the same shoes as all of you right now. It was a time when our industry was not yet ruled by modern technology. It was an era where cellular and mobile phones, laptop computers, the internet, smartphones, and social media were not yet around. As the speaker is from the PNP Information Technology Management Service (ITMS), it is a way for us cadets to be also well informed about the current standing of the PNP field when it comes to our cyberspace. We were first-hand witnesses to the continuous evolution of modern technology. Information technology has greatly affected our society and molded our needs and even changed our perspectives including our services as police officers and law enforcers. Amidst the pandemic, we have shifted to the virtual and online ways of doing our business, of course with increased efficiency and reduced processing time. With these present challenges, criminality is taking another form with the advent of information and communications technology, thus it is deemed important that law enforcement be prepared in this new cybercrime era.

In the time of virtual crimes and online violations the institution cannot afford to be left behind, that is why we at the PNP Information Technology Management Service are prioritizing the implementation of the PNP ICT Master Plan. This plan is dubbed as the PNP S.M.A.R.T. policing wherein S.M.A.R.T. Stands for Secured, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence-Driven, Real-Time Technology Policing. [1] With faster business and communication processes, police officers on the field will be more efficient and their groundwork will significantly decrease, with faster response time and providing them with real-time information to avoid senseless casualties in the battleground. As we improve the quality of our service, it also allows us to have more quality time with our families. As we evolve, future lieutenants and our underclass will be the next generation of police officers who will take advantage of these technologies and tools that are available at your disposal. As an answer to organizing our daily analysis, PBGEN FAMA shared his favorite management tool that may also be helpful in whatever circumstances will come your way. This is the SAPADAPPA management tool. SA stands for Situation Analysis (What is going on?), PA is Problem Analysis (Why is the issue?), DA is Decision Analysis (What needs to be done?) and PPA is the Potential Problem and Solutions Analysis (What needs to be prevented?). These sorts of questions are also vital to surviving a life of challenge and further assessing what is it that needs to be addressed and done. The ever-evolving technology needs a more reactive responsible holder in this modern world era.
